Valerian (Valeriana officinalis)<\/p>\n

It is a beautiful herbaceous plant that is frequently found in France in meadows and wet grounds. Valerian has a fibrous root and very fragrant pink flowers that bloom from April to August. The very characteristic scent of its root exerts a surprising attraction on cats who like to rub it with delight, which explains its nickname “catnip”.<\/p>\n

Valerian was already used in Antiquity for its sedative and relaxing properties. Pliny the Elder already spoke of it in his works. It was not until the 16th century that it was recognized for the properties which today make its reputation. Valerian root gives off a strong odor due to the presence of an essential oil. Valerian is traditionally used to reduce nervousness in adults, especially in cases of minor sleep disorders.<\/p>\n
