Actinica is a medical device for the prevention of certain forms of non-melanoma skin cancer in patients at risk (immunosuppression) and in light dermatosis.
Contraindications
An allergic reaction to one of the ingredients of Actinica Lotion cannot be excluded.
If irritation, rash, or sunburn occurs after just a short exposure to the sun, it could be a sign of an unwanted side effect. In this case, you should use a different product.
Carefully avoid contact with the eyes and use a good pair of sunglasses as Actinica Lotion can cause a burning sensation on direct contact with the eyes. In case it does get into the eyes, rinse with plenty of water.
Usage and dosage
Avoid direct exposure to sunlight and wear protective clothing.
Apply Actinica generously to uncovered areas of the skin every morning before the first sun exposure and distribute evenly.
Actinica must be applied before applying cosmetic products (allow Actinica to soak into the skin for a few minutes).
After prolonged contact with water or heavy sweating, reapply Actinica.
The skin surface varies; the following table gives the required dosage:
• Pump your face (including ears and nose) at least twice
• Pump the scalp at least once
• Pump at least 2x per forearm
• Pump at least 1x per top of the hand
The packaging includes dosing instructions for the parts of the body that often come into contact with daylight throughout the year.
For optimal distribution and a pleasant feeling on the skin, the dose can be applied in two times, for example, by waiting 5–10 minutes after the first dose for the second dose.
Make sure that no more than 10–15 minutes elapses between the first and second application.
The indicated dosages for the face, scalp, etc. can serve as a reference for the required dose on further parts of the skin.
When using for the first time, the pump must be pressed several times to draw the lotion into the pump system. The first dose does not deliver a full dose.
Keep the pump as upright as possible and pump slowly to obtain a full dose.
At-risk patients with a weakened immune system should wear protective clothing and avoid direct contact with the sun.
Use in conjunction with mosquito repellants
If Actinica Lotion is used in combination with a mosquito repellent, the sunscreen lotion should be applied first.
Wait about 20 minutes before applying the mosquito repellent.
Keep in mind that in combination with these agents, the protection provided by Actinica Lotion may be reduced.
Special instructions
The UV filters in Actinica Lotion can discolour clothing, plastics and other materials, such as the film used for swimming pools.
We therefore recommend not to apply Actinica Lotion immediately before dressing.

Operation
In a 2-year study in high-risk immunosuppressed patients (organ transplant patients) for the prevention of non-melanoma skin cancer, Actinica Lotion has proven to be effective in the prevention of actinic keratosis and squamous cell carcinoma.
In a study with patients suffering from a polymorphic light dermatosis, Actinica has proven to be very effective. Actinica Lotion protects against both UVA and UVB rays. It contains broad spectrum photostable filters and is water resistant. Actinica also has moisturizing properties and conditions your skin. The lack of fragrances and conventional PEG emulsifiers ensures that the lotion is well tolerated so that it can also be used on very sensitive skin.
