Description

Digestion already begins in the mouth. By chewing, the teeth cut and crush the food into small pieces and the enzymes present in the food are activated. Then the food goes to the stomach where enzymes and stomach acid aid in predigestion. Next, the food moves into the small intestine where it will be digested by enzymes until it is small enough to be absorbed.

When food is not sufficiently predigested, for example due to a lack of enzymes, the rest of the process will be much more difficult, so that digestive problems may arise.
