Properties :
oral paste for cats
Pyrantel embonate, the active ingredient in Catminth, belongs to the class of tetrahydropyrimidines.
It is a pyrantel salt very slightly soluble in water, odorless and tasteless, very well accepted and tolerated by cats.
Pyrantel is a cholinergic agonist. Pharmacological studies have shown that pyrantel causes muscle contraction in parasitic worms, followed by paralysis resulting from the properties of the product, including neuromuscular blockade.
Pyrantel also inhibits the activity of fumarate reductase, an important link in the respiratory chain of many helminths. The ultimate effect that results is a nematicidal action of pyrantel and not simply an anesthetic action.
